These drives are slow, and their firmware is defective. I could not use these disks as startup disks on my Mac Pro. My recommendation: Stay away from Western Digital disk drives! Rating: 1 / 5

DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE – GARBAGE. WE PURCHASED 3 OF THESE. 2 ARE DEAD AND THE 1 RUNNING IS RUNNING HOT.
THESE DRIVES ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR WINDOWS XP — THEY RUN THE “NEW” 4KB PHYSICAL SECTOR JUNK. SUPPOSED TO “FASTER” – YEAH, RIGHT. WE PURCHASED A HITACHI 1 TB FROM ANAZON AND IT RUNS JUST A FAST AS THIS PIECE OF JUNK. WESTERN DIGITAL IS IN BED WITH MICROSOFT – DESIGNED DRIVES TO WORK ONLY ON WINDOWS 7 (ANOTHER PIECE OF GARBAGE OF AN OS). COMPANIES SHOULD MAKE DRIVES TO WORK ON THE MAJORITY OF THE WORLD’S COMPUTERS – NOT THE MINORITY – AND WINDOWS 7 RUNS (AT THIS WRITING) ON 23 PER CENT OF WORLD’S COMPUTER VS. XP’S 43 PER CENT). WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER WESTERN DIGITAL PRODUCT AGAIN. WE HAVE TAKEN THEM OFF OUR PURCHASING ORDERS. IF YOU WANT THIS JUNK TO RUN ON WINDOWS XP YOU WILL NEED TO REPROGRAM THE DISK THROUGH SETUP, OR MANUALLY CAP JUMPERS 7 AND 8 IN ORDER FOR YOUR XP MACHINE TO “SEE” IT. PIECE OF JUNK
WESTERN DIGITAL IS A MICROSOFT PUPPET.

Bought it through eCost. Wasn’t compatible with Vista 64, so I called them up, they said I have to talk to WD directly. WD washed their hands quickly saying it’s eCost’s fault. In the meantime i tried the disk in an XP machine, no luck either – so it was bad. Couldn’t return it, couldn’t replace it. I will never buy anything from eCost or from Western Digital again. As I am concerned, they don’t exist any more. Rating: 1 / 5

Try this link and the discussion that follows . . . (. . . ) Seems Amazon removed my link. . . Makes this a more like a high performance 5200rpm drive, enhanced speed only because of increased density on the platters. I had to give a rating to give a review. . . I gave it a 5 for what it is attempting to do, but a 2 for not explaining on it’s website what it is attempting to do and not giving rotational speeds. Rating: 3 / 5

Bought this drive from a Gold Box Deal, and I’m pissed. I was going to use this as my main HDD for recording on Media Center. But the read/write times make it impossible to watch a program. It constantly stutters dropping frames and audio so that you miss 3/4 of the show. I’m going to end up keeping the drive and putting it in an external enclosure as a backup, and getting a new drive to record my media.
