This is not a review of the product but a gripe over the $150 price increase since yesterday. I have been shopping for a laptop since December 09. I am new to them so I wanted to research all options. I was considering this particular one but when I went back on line just barely 36 hours later the price went from $799 to $949. I can’t go that high. Sudden sticker shock!! I did price them at Best Buy and they were quite a bit less, actually a lot less. I guess that’s where I will be going. I bought from Amazon for sometime but this may send me elswhere. BTW my brother highly recommends ASUS laptops & he would know.

THIS LAPTOP IS GIANT. ITS REALLY BIG AND REALLY CRAZY!! ITS PRETTY MUCH THE OPPOSITE OF A NETBOOK I WOULD SAY. I LIKE IT BECAUSE IT HAS A FULL SIZE NUMERICAL KEYBOARD THAT I NEVER USE, BUT I REALLY LIKE TO LOOK AT IT AND KNOW I HAVE THAT CAPABILITY IF I WANT. I DO HAVE TO COMPLAIN THOUGH, AFTER ABOUT A WEEK OF HAVING THIS I GOT A VIRUS FROM DOWNLOADING A PROGRAM TO MAKE ME INTO AN AVATAR CHARACTER. NOT SURE IF ITS ASUS’S FAULT BUT THEIR COLORS SEEM LIKE NA’VI SO I BET IT PROBABLY IS!!
JUST A WARNING !

First of all let me mebtion about the good sides of the product : Battery performance and CPU performance. These two topics are well designed and served and works in a good manner. Most of the specs. are the same with the manual.
But, there are some problems and lack of operation when it comes to touch pad design, plastic cover around the product and the dust visibilty problem.
It’s been 3 weeks but I still did not satisfied with the touch pad performance. It is still not easy to use, multi touch functions does not work well all the time. I am still considering carrying a small mouse with me.
The cover or the produt looks shinny until you touch and feel it. It is covered with cheap plastic.
If this cover is black then you have another problem with dust and fingerprints.

I purchased this computer for my wife as an an additional navigation aid to the chart plotter on our trawler. She wanted something with long battery life, speed and reliability . We are not always connected to land resources so these attributes were necessary. She also uses it for her online teaching and research.
We would encourage others to consider purchasing this computer.

I really like this laptop. The main problem is finger prints. I’d suggest a coating over aluminum for future products. ASUS makes a good product. Rating: 4 / 5
